What Is Acting?
Video Transcript:
Hi everyone and welcome, it’s Loren here from Acting Classes In Perth. In this FREE Online Acting Class we're going to explore What is Acting. Well, we can sum it up in three points: First of all:
1. Acting is communication:
That's all you're ever going to do. As an actor you're going communicate the story, the theme, the plot, the turning points, the genre, everything. You're going communicate it to the audience. Now, as important as dialog is that's the verbal communication. As important as it is, non-verbal is so much more important. It's probably about 80% of your performance is non-verbal. So, I want you to think about your physicality, your posture, your reactions to the other character, delivering the lines. Sometimes, you may have even heard it, acting is about reacting.
2. Story:
So, the second point that we gonna look at is story. Story is possibly the most important thing you need to identify as soon as you get a script. What is the story, what is the story that you're telling to the audience? If you don't know what it is, well, how you gonna tell it? Make sure you know what the story is.
3. Who is your character:
And finally, who is your character. And, even greater than that, who are the characters and what are their backgrounds. How does your character interact with those other characters that are in the script. Identify the story and identify the characters and how those characters fit into the story. And then just communicate that to the audience.
I hope that you have a great week ahead. Stay safe and, as always, happy acting.
