Video Transcript:
Hi everyone and welcome, it’s Loren here from Acting Classes In Perth. In this FREE Online Acting Class, What Are Props And Should I Use Them As An Actor. Well,
First of all, Props stands for the word “property” and props are what an actors’ character interacts with during a scene or a mug or TV remote or something like that. If an actor or a character I should say interacts with something physical then that tends to be a prop.
Prop help characterization, they can also bring out the physicality and also a characters behaviour so they are a great tool for an actor to have to help their character and characterization.
And props also assist the actors overall performance. You know they can distract an actor from always thinking about lines or thinking about whether move and stuff like that. So they do inevitably how actors relax as well. And in the long run give them much better performance. So you should use them, yes, absolutely!
I always find myself giving an actor you know props whether that be on set or whether that be in a class or workshop environment. I think it gives the performance a much more realistic. You know interaction with the space as well because a lot of the times, actors and people don't really know what to do with their hands. So it can look a bit awkward if you just kind of standstill with your arms by your hands, by your side. So we might throw a coffee mug in your hand or a book or a bag to hold something like that.
So if you do go to an audition I would advise that you take a you know small easy prop with you. Or if you do a scene in a workshop or class definitely have a few different options for Props as well.
Well there you have it, I hope that helps and I wish you all the best for this week I hope that you stay safe and until I see you next time, as always, happy acting.
