Blog #003: The Actors HeadshotBy Loren Johnson
So you're an actor! Nice to meet you. I’m sorry I’m running late, and don’t have time to chat, but do you have a headshot or something I can take with me?
Whether you are new to acting or you’re an established actor already in Perth, every actor needs a headshot , it’s your business card. It’s the first impression that you’ll make when you apply for a role. Yes, it is one of the essentials. Anyone in the industry who’s interested in using you as an actor, will ask for your headshot. If you’re new to acting, a headshot is exactly what the name says. Up close and personal, a photo of your head. Now I know that might seem confronting but if you find the right photographer, it shouldn’t be, it should be a fun and creative time. By the way if you are after a great headshot photographer in Perth, I can recommend Kelly Bergsma. You can check out her work out and get her details by visiting: www.actingclassesinperth.com/kelly Now back on track... A good headshot will show the real you. Without all the thick layers of make up or fancy outfits, we want to see a simple & basic you, basically you in your everyday life, but still looking your best.
In this blog we are going to focus on the theatrical headshot. The theatrical headshot will present you, the actor, as the real you. Confident, relaxed, interesting…you. Every actor has a story, and capturing that story and emotion in someones eyes is vital. It’s all about the eyes. Your eyes can tell a dozen stories, for they are the gateway to the soul.
When you have your headshots taken, you often get to pick 5 to 10 final images. I would suggest you get a second opinion or even a third opinion from someone in the industry including other actors you know because you might think you look good in one shot, but others might say that it looks nothing like you. Headshots are different from normal portraits. If you are after some new headshots or even your first set of headshots check out our website for details:www.actingclassesinperth.com/headshots . I hope that helps. Until next time, stay safe and as always - happy acting. |
